ABSTRACT

As a critical influencing factor of learning engagement, teacher expectation plays a vital role in ensuring the quality of online teaching under COVID-19. This paper investigates the relationship between teacher expectations (three dimensions of teacher support, teaching interaction, and academic feedback) on students' online English learning engagement (three dimensions of cognitive engagement, behavioral engagement, and emotional engagement) in e-learning through a questionnaire survey of 513 college students. Pearson correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were applied as research methods. The results manifest that college students' online English learning engagement was above average, but emotional engagement needs improvement. In addition, teacher expectations of teaching interaction positively and significantly predict English e-learning engagement. Based on this, the article puts forward suggestions on the future of online teaching from the aspects of online teaching design, feedback quality of teachers and students, innovative teaching practice of technology empowerment to effectively play the role of teachers as scaffolding and improve the effectiveness of online English teaching. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we propose an analytical model that can analyze the impact of emergencies on open source software (OSS) development. As the core of this model, a metric system is used to comprehensively describe the OSS development process, which includes three dimensions: team activity, development activity, and development risk, with a total of 30 metrics. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the model, we construct an empirical study analyzing the impact of COVID-19 on OSS development. This study is based on the development process events between January 2019 and April 2022 belonging to 50 selected open source projects on GitHub. The results show that more than 72.4% of projects were negatively impacted following the COVID-19 outbreak. Interestingly, we observe that variants of covide-19 did not exacerbate its impact on software development. On the contrary, some project development activities have obviously resumed, indicating that the development team has adapted and gradually got rid of the impact of the epidemic. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic boosted the digital transformation of many services, including healthcare, and access to medical care using teleconsultation has increased rapidly. Thus, a growing number of online platforms have been developed to accommodate patients' needs. This paper examines the factors that predict the intention to use medical teleconsultation by extending the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) with the three dimensions of trusting beliefs and self-efficacy. A survey was administered to patients who had used a teleconsultation platform during the pandemic period. As one of the largest studies to date, a sample of 1233 respondents was collected and analyzed using a partial least squares approach, often mobilized in the information systems (IS) domain. Furthermore, a deep analysis using all recommended metrics was performed. The results highlight the significance of trusting beliefs, and self-efficacy in the adoption of digital healthcare services. These findings contribute to both theory and practice in COVID-19 research. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

ABSTRACT

One of the main motivations for our research was to find a connection between the Brownian motion of microorganisms within fractal nature, with the idea of developing an appropriate procedure and method to control the microorganism's motion direction and predict the position of the microorganism in time. In this paper, we have followed the results of the very rear microorganism's motion sub-microstructures in the experimental microstructure analysisFractals already observed and published. All of these data have been good basis to describe the motion trajectory by time interval method and fractals. We successfully defined the diagrams in two and three-dimensions and we were able to establish the control of Brownian chaotic motion as a bridge between chaotic disorders to control disorder. This significant study opens a new possibility for future investigation and the new potential of total control of the microorganism motion. These perspectives and findings provide significant data for getting more information from these bio systems. ABSTRACT

The Light and Shadow App is an immersive photography studio lighting workshop in Augmented Reality. The App allows photo enthusiasts to virtually step into a full-size photo lighting studio and visualize the placement of studio lights for portrait photography in three dimensions. With the Light and Shadow App, users can use smartphones or iPads, and Augmented Reality, to move around the photo studio scenes and study the position of lights from different points of view. The App was originally developed for university level photography students at Kwantlen Polytechnic University during the covid-19 restrictions of 2020 and 2021 when in-person learning was not possible. The goal of the app is to recreate the learning environment of the photo studio and allow students to visualize the effect of lighting on the portrait in an interactive and immersive format. © 2022 Owner/Author.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the development of China’s e-commerce live broadcasting industry has been developing rapidly. With the outbreak of COVID-19, Internet users have opened the shopping mode of live broadcast by e-commerce. As a more accurate and rapid way of content dissemination, e-commerce live broadcasting has built a new mode of communication between brands and consumers, narrowed the distance between consumers and goods during online shopping, and greatly improved the sales conversion rate. At this time, the research on the generation mechanism of consumer behavioral intention in e-commerce live broadcasting platform is very key. This paper introduces three dimensions: aesthetic appeal, functional layout and financial security, and constructs a research model of online service scenario on consumer behavioral intention in the context of e-commerce live broadcast. The empirical results show that the three dimensions of aesthetic appeal, functional layout and financial security have a positive impact on consumers’ behavior intention, and have a significant positive impact on consumers’ trust. Consumer trust has a significant positive impact on consumers’ behavior intention. This study takes the multi-dimensional e-commerce live broadcast e-servicescape as the starting point, provides more reliable basis for the study of consumer behavior will, and expands the application scope of e-servicescape. ABSTRACT

Food waste negatively impacts the three dimensions of sustainability. Environmentally and financially, it represents a waste of natural resources and increases the cost respectively. Socially, it represents an ethical issue as about 800 million people are suffering from hunger worldwide. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explore if and how resilience contributes to food waste reduction in fruits and vegetables distribution in the Brazilian market. Multiple case studies were conducted in the supplier-retailer dyad of four retail chains. Results have shown that resilience plays the role of both enabler and barrier to food waste reduction. On the positive side, collaboration, communication, flexibility, innovation, knowledge management, leadership, security technologies and supply chain design contributed to food waste reduction;especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. On the negative side, financial health and redundancy increased the level of food waste. Additionally, it was observed that flexibility can reduce or increase food waste. Our findings have implications for academics and practitioners as the developed framework summarizes the role of resilience to food waste reduction. As a social impact, the implementation of food waste reduction initiatives by non-governmental organizations and retailer associations can result in increased communication, knowledge diffusion, and training about how to build resilience and improve food waste reduction practices among different agents. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first empirical study that explores the relationship among elements of resilience and food waste. Thus, it advances the current literature by operationalizing resilience to reduce food waste. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

ABSTRACT

In the last several years, innovation has received an amplified focus as various traditional businesses have been interrupted by new business models as well as the Covid-19 pandemic. Large organizations are often challenged to keep innovating lest they be disrupted by new upstart business models or unforeseen shocks. This case study explores three dimensions of achieving systematic organizational innovation, specific to internal business optimization: a process framework for managing and tracking innovation activities and outcomes;an examination of the front-end of this process related to generating ideas for innovation;and a mapping of industrial engineering graduate courses to the innovation process framework. Being a case study, this paper will provide some key learnings for areas to focus on and what works when innovation becomes a priority. © 2021 IISE Annual Conference and Expo 2021.
